About WIND

Our Values

What is WIND?

WIND stands for Weight Inclusive Nutrition and Dietetics. It’s a movement that supports a paradigm shift in dietetics, a community, and a series of events focused on continuing education and connection for weight-inclusive dietitians.

WIND Mission

With our WIND events, virtual community, meet ups, and resources, we aim to create space for dialogue, discussion, and progressive thought related to weight-inclusive practices in the fields of nutrition and dietetics.

WIND History

Our community, website, and events launched in November 2018. Weight-inclusive practices, and fat activism, have been movements in place for decades. WIND exists to support that work, to pay thought leaders and those with lived experiences for their labor and time, and to bring continuing education in the areas of weight-inclusive healthcare practices, and fat liberation social justice activism, to practitioners.

WIND works to support a paradigm shift in dietetics and healthcare, along with social justice issues, while dismantling fat-phobia and weight-based discrimination.

Meet the WIND Team

The Weight Inclusive Nutrition and Dietetics (WIND) community is our team. We wouldn’t have the support for our events, webinars, resources, or meet ups without our community showing up. You can preview and join the WIND community on Facebook by clicking here.

Our team is also made up of our incredible speakers, event partners and sponsors, and educators who are working to integrate weight inclusive care into their curriculum.

Below, you’ll find more information about those who work to bring WIND events to life, send newsletters, engage with the community, coordinate meet ups, schedule and record webinars, and reach out to potential brands, companies, and organizations to collaborate with.

FOUNDER, CEO

Heather Caplan, RD

Heather Caplan (she/her) is a registered dietitian with a virtual business that focuses on continuing education, creating resources, and connecting practitioners. She incorporates non-diet and weight-inclusive practices in her work. After years of attending major nutrition conferences only to find a few, if any, sessions dedicated to weight inclusive practices— not to mention the enormous lack of funding for weight-inclusive research—Heather decided to launch WIND to bring this information, resources, and community to fellow practitioners.

This virtual container for WIND opened in 2018, but the foundations of weight-inclusive practices, fat liberation, and activism in the weight-inclusive space has been around for decades.

Heather acts as the Event Director for WIND, working to bring myriad marginalized voices, lived experiences, and activists in the weight-inclusive space to share their work with the WIND community and get paid fairly to do so.

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Kimberly Hoban

Kim Hoban, RDN, CDN, CPT (she/her) is a Registered Dietitian based in South Carolina. As a HAES-aligned, fat positive dietitian, Kim believes everyone deserves to feel comfortable in their body, and pursue health and wellness if they want to. She has worked in a variety of dietetic and healthcare settings, including clinical, private practice, sports nutrition, and most recently served as the Director of Wellness for a large food service organization. Kim leads the marketing, brand design, and outreach team at WIND, overseeing social media marketing, graphic design, and the implementation of WIND's professional membership.
